This two-part panel follows from the Plenary focusing on research publishing and dissemination, journals, structures and resources with contributions from leading publishers, journal editors and researchers in the African continent and African studies at large. The panels will consider such questions as: What publishing structures – including academic platforms, journals, book publishers, distribution systems etc. – are required at both regional and international levels to support a new generation of researchers and scholars of Africa? What is the role of books in the future of the (African) academy? What is the role of African university presses? What are the opportunities and challenges afforded by the digital era? How do the panellists understand and interrogate the question of gender vis-à-vis knowledge production in Africa?
